The CBSE on Friday opened online registration for Board and compartmental exams enabling unsuccessful Class X and Class XII students this year to apply as private candidates in 2018.

Class X students, placed under not eligible for improvement of performance (NIOP) when their 2017 board exam results were declared, can also apply to be private candidates in 2018, but they can no longer take school based board examinations (optional board examination.

A Central Board of Secondary Education notification states that all Class X NIOP candidates should take the compulsory board exams



from 2018.The Board will conduct Class X board examination for private candidates for 80 marks (in theory) in each subject covering 100% syllabus of the Class X.

“Students declared as EIOP (eligible for improvement in performance)/NIOP in Board (SA-2) examination 2017/ earlier will need to give 2018 examination (covering entire class X syllabus) according to revised pattern,” the CBSE said. Students declared as “fail” in the All India Senior School Certificate Examination (Class XII), 2017, will have to take the 2018 board examinations in all subjects.
