The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a new directive inviting schools to apply online to add the "PM SHRI" prefix to their names. Schools eligible for this update can register on the CBSE SARAS portal under the "Change in Name of School" category once the online application link reopens in the next academic session, 2025-26.

Currently, the SARAS portal is closed for this session, but the board assures that schools will be able to apply once it becomes accessible.

The board mandates that all schools applying for the PM SHRI prefix upload an official approval letter issued by the Ministry of Education,

Government of India, to verify eligibility. The PM SHRI scheme, launched on September 7, 2022, by the Government of India, aims to transform select schools into model institutions, emphasising quality education and equipping students with 21st-century skills.

With a budget allocation of Rs 27,000 crore for five years, the PM SHRI initiative plans to upgrade 14,500 centrally administered and state government-run schools, including Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya Vidyalayas, aligning with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The selected schools will serve as exemplars of NEP 2020's implementation across the nation.
