The Centre informed the Supreme Court on Thursday that it will implement all corrective measures recommended by a seven-member expert panel on exam reforms. The panel reviewed the functioning of the National Testing Agency (NTA) in conducting NEET UG last year.
On August 2, 2024, the Supreme Court declined to annul the NEET UG exam, despite controversies, stating there was insufficient evidence to suggest a systemic leak or malpractice that compromised its integrity.
The Centre has expanded the mandate of a seven-member expert panel, led by former ISRO chief K Radhakrishnan, to review the NTA's functioning and propose reforms aimed at making the NEET UG more transparent and resistant to malpractices.
On Thursday, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta,
representing the Centre, informed a bench of Justices PS Narasimha and Manoj Misra that the committee has submitted its report, and the government is committed to implementing all its recommendations.
"We are going to implement all the recommendations and it (matter) can be listed after six months," the law officer was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
The bench stated that the matter has been adjourned for three months and will be listed in April.
The full report has not been submitted to the court, as it includes details on sensitive matters such as the printing of questions.
On October 21, 2024, the Supreme Court extended the deadline for the Centre-appointed seven-member expert panel to submit its report on exam reforms.
