Government schools in the Hyderabad city have been imparting martial arts training to over 22,000 girl students.
According to officials from the school education department, the initiative has been undertaken in 178 government schools in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits.
“Girl students from Class 6 to 10 are being taught martial arts for three months. They learn martial arts thrice a week
from trained physical education teachers,” said B Narasamma, district education officer of Hyderabad.
The physical education teachers have been trained by instructors from the Rani Rudrama Devi Self-defence Academy. The move to teach martial arts to girl students comes following instructions issued by the district collector. The martial arts classes are being held as part of the curriculum.
