In Kerala, educational institutions in 12 districts barring Kannur and Kasaragod will remain shut today as heavy rains continue to lash the State.
Indian Meteorological Department has sounded a red alert in ten districts and warned of widespread and isolated heavy rainfall in the State till Friday.
Incidents of landslides and flash floods have been reported in many parts. With water levels rising in many rivers, the Central Water Commission has issued a flood warning in the State.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has urged the people to keep high
vigil and strictly follow the instructions of the Government machinery.
Authorities have shifted nearly 2300 people to relief camps. Around 100 relief camps have been opened till now.
Besides nine National Disaster Response Force teams in position, two units of the Defence Security Corps have been stationed in Kannur and Palakkad districts and one column of the Army in Thiruvananthapuram district.
According to reports, the death toll in related incidents in the State has risen to 12.
