The Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education (TSBIE) on Tuesday announced that it would develop a new curriculum as well as scrutinise all applications received from private institutions. The decisions were taken at a meeting chaired by education minister Kadiyam Srihari.
“Such meetings would be conducted once in six months.During the meetings, the board members would have to put forth their requirements for colleges. Apart from board members, there would also be representatives from the National Academy of Construction, medical and health department and experts from JNTU who will help design a new curriculum that would help students secure jobs,“ Srihari said.
As of now, there are 404 junior colleges under the board's purview. The government has decided to create profiles of each college and upload it on their website. “In the profile,
officials would have to upload details such as number of teachers, basic facilities and list of courses. The board will also scrutinise every application that it receives from private educational institutions to ensure they meet the standards. Any applicant failing to do so will be penalised,“ he said.
The government has also decided to spend `325 crore to ensure that all 404 colleges have labs, libraries, CCTVs, biometric machines and RO water purifying plants.The TSBIE will also promote government-run junior colleges. “We have increased admissions in government junior colleges. Three years ago, there were only 1,23,000 students in government colleges. Now the number has risen to 1,80,000. We expect it to go up in the coming years,“ he added. It was also decided to set up new colleges in areas with higher density of studebts by the next academic year.
