The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has announced a free, one-day online course on Himalayan cryospheric hazards. This course aims to educate participants on crucial issues related to climate change and its impact on the Himalayan glaciers.
The course is open to final-year undergraduate and postgraduate students in India. Participants will also receive a certificate upon completing the course requirements.
The course will cover the
importance of the Himalayan cryosphere, highlighting how climate change is affecting glaciers, snow cover, and river basins.
Topics will include glacier hazards, glacier dynamics, glacial lake dynamics, permafrost melting, landform dynamics, snow cover dynamics, and debris flow.
Participants will learn about the formation of new glacial lakes, which pose risks such as Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOF), and the emerging issue of permafrost melting.
