Public universities across Maharashtra have agreed to offer free education to students from the transgender community, in response to a directive from the state government. A recent statement released by university authorities highlights this progressive step towards fostering inclusivity and equal educational opportunities.
Accordingly, students falling under this category will receive free education in these universities and affiliated colleges.
During a meeting with vice-chancellors of state universities on
Tuesday, the Higher and Technical Education Minister, Chandrakant Patil, urged the universities to cover the complete fees of transgender students using their respective funds.
"All vice-chancellors unanimously accepted the appeal made by the minister (to provide free education to the students of the transgender community,” stated a release.
Senior officials from the Higher and Technical Education Department attended the meeting, which also assessed the advancements made under the New Education Policy (NEP).
