The Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) on Tuesday commenced work to develop textbooks for higher education in Urdu language.
The Bhartiya Bhasha Samiti (BBS), an initiative of University Grants Commission (UGC) has assigned the task to MANUU. The central university is organizing a two-day workshop for authors on academic writing to develop textbooks.
Addressing the inaugural session, UoH Vice Chancellor Prof. BJ Rao lauded the important contribution being made by MANUU in promoting Urdu as a language of knowledge.
MANUU Vice Chancellor Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan advised the authors to adopt a
direct approach to appeal to the students.
Osmania University former Vice Chancellor Prof. Suleman Siddiqui spoke about the experiments and deliberations undertaken to prepare academic material in Urdu during the formative stages of the university. He suggested the university prepare a pool of authors knowing Urdu, English and the concerned subject.
AMU Department of Linguistics Prof. Imtiyaz Hasnain pointed out that UGC has undertaken this initiative because of National Education Policy 2020, which lays emphasis in providing education in mother tongue. NEP has formally recognized the multilingualism of Indian society, he remarked.
