The government of Tamil Nadu has reopened the medical undergraduate and postgraduate colleges in the state from today, December 7, after nearly nine months of them being shut down. The colleges in the state were shut down due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
The state government has also given permission to degree colleges in Tamil Nadu to resume classes for final year students enrolled in undergraduate programmes. The state had earlier given permission to postgraduate colleges to resume classes for final year students.
Even though the medical colleges in the state have reopened from today, the attendance has been
kept optional for students, as some students might not be able to attend classes due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
Online classes are also being conducted along with classroom sessions for college students in Tamil Nadu for the time being. The guideline and SOPs regarding the conduction of regular classes in colleges have also been issued by the Tamil Nadu government.
The number of students to be seated in each classroom has also been limited to ensure proper social distancing. The colleges in Tamil Nadu for final year post-graduate students had reopened from December 2, though the attendance in colleges remained low.
