Microsoft removes the last upgrade block for Windows 10 October 2018 Update

Microsoft explains on the official Windows 10 update history page that it worked together with Intel on resolving issues with its display drivers.

Previously, users who installed Intel display driver version 24.20.100.6344 and 24.20.100.6345 were blocked from upgrading to the Windows 10 October 2018 Update due to an issue causing the operating system to “accidentally turn on unsupported features in Windows.”

“After updating to Windows 10, version 1809, audio playback from a monitor or television connected to a PC via HDMI, USB-C, or a DisplayPort may not function correctly on devices with these drivers,” Microsoft explains.

New drivers resolving the issues already available

Intel released new drivers to resolve the issue earlier this year, but



Microsoft decided to keep the upgrade block in place until OEMs received the revised software and pushed it to their devices.

“Intel has released updated drivers to OEM device manufacturers. OEMs need to make the updated driver available via Windows Update and the block has been lifted,” Microsoft explains.

Microsoft resolving all issues in Windows 10 October 2018 Update comes at a time when the company is getting ready to introduce another OS feature update for Windows 10.

Windows 10 May 2019 Update, or Windows 10 version 1903, is already in the RTM stage as part of the Release Preview ring in the Windows Insider program. Microsoft said the public rollout of the update would kick off later this month to production devices, and the company wants to use a slower pace this time to make sure major issues are resolved before they hit a significant number of devices.
