In Telangana, a midwifery nursing diploma course, first of its kind in the country, has been introduced in District Hospital, Karimnagar. Taking into view that Karimnagar recorded the highest number of caesarean operations in the entire country, the central government had decided to introduce this course in the district hospital.

on the occasion, state Health Minister Dr C Lakshma Reddy said the midwives who undergo this 18-month-long course will be trained in the state-of-the-art techniques to be adopted in encouraging safe and normal deliveries. They subsequently will be recruited in the maternity hospitals and play a key role in mother and child care.
