As the JEE Main 2020 examination kicked off on September 1, many states across the country observed low attendance in the exam centres. On September 3, the Education Ministry announced that more than 82 percent candidates appeared for the exams on the third day, amid stringent precautions in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Though many states have reported low attendance in their respective districts, the Ministry of Education officials said while the Thursday’s attendance in the engineering entrance exam was 82.14 per cent, it was 81.08 per cent on Wednesday.
As per the official statistics, 3.43 lakh candidates appeared for the exam on the three days. On the first day, 54.67 per cent of candidates had appeared in the exam for Bachelor in Architecture and Planning.

Over 9 lakh students across the country have registered for the JEE Main 2020 exam, seeking admission in technical courses in institutes such as NITs, IITs, and Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs).
Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, many students took to social media to express how they might face problem while travelling to their examination centres as there are no public transports available in a lot of states.
While the governments of Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh have assured students that they will provide transportation to candidates, a group of IIT alumni and students have also launched a portal to provide transport facilities to exam centres for the candidates in need.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has taken several measures to ensure the safe conduction of examination amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Thermal scans and social distancing is being practised at every centre and face masks have been made mandatory.
