The Centre has clarified that there are no plans to discontinue the National Eligibility Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) exam or the counselling process and restore state-wise entrance examinations.
This was confirmed by Minister of State for Education, Sukanta Majumdar, in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday amid ongoing controversies surrounding the medical examination.
Minister Sukanta Majumdar emphasised that the NEET UG exam will continue as usual, and there is no intention to revert to state-wise entrance tests. This statement comes in response to speculations and controversies regarding the future of the NEET UG
exam.
The Ministry of Education has initiated a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into alleged irregularities, including conspiracy, breach, and cheating in the NEET UG 2024 exam.
A high-level committee has also been formed to recommend reforms in the examination system and the functioning of the National Testing Agency (NTA).
The seven-member committee, headed by Dr. K Radhakrishnan, former chairman of ISRO and chairman of BoG, IIT Kanpur, will review the entire examination process, data security protocols, and the structure and functioning of the NTA.
The committee is expected to submit its report within two months.
