Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the 29th Biennial Conference of All India Primary Teachers’ Federation in Gandhinagar on Friday, May 12, and spoke about the new changes that the New Education Policy (NEP) will bring.
Modi emphasised that the NEP will change the way students learn and move away from the traditional approach of “kitabi gyan” or bookish knowledge.
The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of teachers as mentors and not just as sources of information. He stated that while Google can provide information, teachers play a crucial role in mentoring students.
The new education
policy aims to provide a holistic learning experience that goes beyond mere memorisation of facts and figures.
The policy will encourage students to think critically, communicate effectively, and apply their knowledge in real-life situations.
Modi stressed the importance of mother tongue education and how NEP has made provisions for it. He stated that learning in the mother tongue provides a strong foundation for a child's education and helps them understand complex concepts better.
The NEP also aims to promote multilingualism and ensure that students have the option to learn other languages as well.
