The National Medical Commission (NMC) has introduced a significant change in the eligibility criteria for the NEET-UG examination, allowing Class 12 students without biology in their core subject combination to apply. This decision extends to those whose applications were previously rejected.

The NMC, on Wednesday, announced that students who completed their 10+2 exams with physics, chemistry, and mathematics could now aspire to become doctors and appear for NEET UG. This is a departure from the previous

regulations set by the Medical Council of India.

The NMC notice outlines that students completing 10+2 with a focus on physics, chemistry, and mathematics can now aspire to pursue MBBS and BDS courses.

However, they need to pass a biology/biotechnology examination as an additional subject at the 10+2 level from any recognised board.

They can also obtain an eligibility certificate from the NMC, confirming their qualification for studying undergraduate medical courses abroad.
