The National Medical Commission, the regulator for medical education, has recently introduced post-doctoral fellowship courses in medical colleges. This initiative aims to foster research and enhance clinical skill development among medical professionals.
Previously, medical institutions independently developed and sanctioned these courses to train doctors.
According to the recently notified "Post-Graduate Medical Education
Regulations, 2023," the regulator stipulates that once a medical college obtains permission to initiate a post-graduate course or seats, the course will be considered officially recognised.
Dr Vijay Oza, President of the Post-Graduate Medical Education Board of the National Medical Commission (NMC), elucidated that this step will alleviate numerous challenges encountered by students in the process of registering their degrees after completing postgraduate examinations.
