The National Medical Commission (NMC) has made significant changes to the NEET 2024 syllabus, reducing nine chapters from chemistry and six from biology. The move has sparked concerns among experts and students.
The decision to cut chapters from the NEET 2024 syllabus has been criticised by experts, who argue that it is 'unscientific' and may add unnecessary pressure on students.
The CEO of a medical coaching academy spoke to a leading media outlet and said that the deleted chapters were beneficial for students' scores.
He also added that syllabus changes need to be informed at the beginning of an academic year since the altered syllabus affects
students' preparation and may impact their performance in the exam.
In chemistry, the NMC removed the following chapters: 'State of Matter', 'Hydrogen', 'The s-Block Elements', 'Environmental Chemistry', 'The Solid State', 'Surface Chemistry', 'General Principles & Processes of Isolation of Elements', 'Polymers', and 'Chemistry in Everyday life'.
The following biology chapters were removed from the syllabus: 'Transport in Plants', 'Mineral Nutrition', 'Digestion and Absorption', 'Reproduction in Organisms', 'Strategies for Enhancement in Food Production', and 'Environmental Issues'.
Meanwhile, the NMC added five sub-topics in physics and biology.
