The National Medical Commission's (NMC's) Post Graduate Medical Education Board has released a set of guidelines for the conduction of medical exams in colleges.

This move aims to streamline the examination process and ensure a standardised approach across medical institutions.

Here are the key points to be noted as per the guidelines:

. Adherence to PGMER guidelines: Medical colleges must follow the guidelines set by the Post Graduate Medical Education Board (PGMER) during the examination process.

. Video recording: A significant addition to the protocol is the requirement for medical colleges to maintain a video record of the entire examination process. This includes details of examiners, examination procedures, cases assessed, and the students' thesis presentations.

. Immediate implementation: The guidelines are to be implemented immediately. This ensures that

ongoing and upcoming examinations will adhere to the new protocols.

. Purpose of evaluation: The guidelines primarily serve the purpose of evaluating examinations during inspections for recognition, increased intake, and renewal of recognition for medical programmes.

. Post-examination assessment: After the exams conclude, a physical assessment of medical colleges and institutes will be conducted. This evaluation will cover aspects such as infrastructure, clinical material, investigative material, and other facilities related to the examination process.

. Exemption from inspection: Notably, the guidelines exempt medical colleges from both physical and online inspections of the examination process. Colleges are granted autonomy to proceed with examination schedules without additional scrutiny.

These guidelines come at a crucial juncture, providing a standardised framework for conducting medical exams.
