As strange as it may sound, a number of students who were all set to appear for National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) exams were in for a huge shock after some girls alleged that they were asked to remove their innerwear and jeans on reaching the exams centres. Some of them were even asked to change into different clothes.
The students were told that this was being done to ensure no cheating in the exams. According to news reports, an 18-year-old girl in Kannur district of Tamil Nadu was asked to remove her bra after the metal detectors beeped because of the metal hooks in the innerwear. Since she was getting late for exams she did what she was asked to do. The students were also not allowed to wears pants that were dark in colours. Students had no other option to run to the stores to buy a
change.
Some of the boys also alleged that they were asked to resize the sleeves of their shirts with scissors since only half sleeve shirts were allowed in the exam hall. Male aspirants were not allowed to wear Kurta-pyjama either. They were also forced to leave their footwear behind in order to adhere to the rules. Girls had to give up their accessories including hair pins, earrings and nose pins. Pens, mobile phones and other gadgets were also not allowed in the exam centres. A number of students even complained of not being allowed inside the hall despite being slightly late.
Over 89,000 students appeared for the exams that were held in about 52 centres in cities including Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Salem, Tiruchirapalli, Namakkal, Tirunelveli and Vellore.
