Osmania University has now introduced an online PhD status monitoring system in the examination branch. The new system will help research scholars track their thesis status from submission to award of degree.
PhD scholars, after completing their research work, have to submit the thesis in PDF format for evaluation along with a soft copy of the synopsis after plagiarism check at the examination branch of the varsity. Based on the details submitted by the scholars, a user ID and password is provided to scholars as well as to supervisors.
A senior official of the university said using the user ID and password, the research scholars and supervisors can login through the examination branch website and track their thesis evaluation status.
The new system would reduce the processing time, use of paper stationary besides addressing postage delays.
After submitting the thesis, several research scholars visit the examination branch and at times pressurise officials for quick evaluation, another official said, adding that the new system would restrict scholars
from visiting the branch.
The university, as part of plans for automation, had earlier launched digital on-screen evaluation of all answer scripts of undergraduate courses of November/December semester examinations.
About 20 lakh answer scripts of close to two lakh undergraduate students will be evaluated digitally while doing away with manual evaluation system. The digital on-screen evaluation yielded good results with the valuation of MBA answer scripts this year.
The digital on-screen evaluation process not just reduced possibilities of errors in evaluation but also increased quality besides weeding out malpractices. The new system will not allow evaluators to skip the page without going through for a minimum of three minutes.
This apart, the university administration has also launched an online application system for obtaining certificates. Students who wish take to any certificate should apply through the website www.osmania.ac.in and certificates will be sent to the postal address mentioned.
