The students of Osmania University need not wait for one year to appear and clear their backlogs. Starting this year, the university administration has decided to conduct make up or special supplementary examinations for final year students. Those candidates, who fail in the final year and final semester can immediately appear for the special supplementary exams and clear them. Earlier, the students had to wait for one year to take those backlog examinations.
The introduction of make up or special supplementary had been approved by the Standing Committee of the varsity recently. The university took this decision as several foreign students with backlog papers had been facing a lot of issues with regards to stay in the city due to visas validity. As supplementary were being conducted after a year, thus making international students wait till the said period to clear backlogs. In fact, several representations had been made to the University Foreign Relations Office in this respect.
After carefully examining the issue, the University decided not only to conduct special supplementary for the international
students but also for locals. As the final year and final semester exams are scheduled in May, the university intends to hold the first special supplementary exams in July.
“Presently, engineering college students have this facility of make-up exams. Now this is being extended to all the courses of the university and for all students of undergraduate and post-graduate courses who are in final year and final semester. This will help students save one year to appear for supplementary exams,” Prof Sriram Venkatesh, Controller of Examinations, OU told.
Earlier, the university has introduced an screen online evaluation system for MBA course and later extended to all the courses offered by the university colleges. As part of the reforms, the varsity also introduced an online system for evaluating PhD thesis submitted by research scholars. PhD thesis are also being sent online to evaluators and using a login id and password, evaluators can access the thesis and evaluate the same. Earlier a hard copy of the PhD thesis was sent to evaluators within and outside the State.
