Osmania University will now switch to online assessment of answer scripts of postgraduate examinations, doing away with conventional manual evaluation from this academic year.
OU has tied up with an ‘outside’ firm for bar coding and scanning of answer scripts, which will be uploaded to a dedicated server at a data centre located in the Central Facilities for Research and Development (CFRD) on campus. To start with, 80,000 answer scripts of MBA second semester examinations will be evaluated online, the university said in a press release.
“Earlier, in the manual evaluation system, every answer script had to be coded by professionals. It
was a time consuming process. OU will be the first in the state to introduce the online evaluation system,” said Prof Kumar M, controller of examinations, OU.
Now coded and scanned answer scripts will be uploaded online. Access to scanned scripts will be made available at designated online evaluation centres to be set up under OU jurisdiction limits. “Using a special ID, password and an OTP, evaluators can access the 32-page answer script, evaluate and award marks. The marks awarded in a particular answer script will be totalled automatically by the system and sent to the main server,” the release said.
