Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be inaugurating 11 new government medical colleges across the state of Tamil Nadu along with a new campus of the Central Institute of Classical Tamil in Chennai (CICT) at 4 Pm on January 12, 2022 through video conferencing.

The new medical colleges that are being inaugurated will be established at an estimated cost of Rs 4000 crore.

Approximately Rs 2145 crore of the amount has been provided by the central government and the remaining amount is funded by the state



government.

These new districts will be established in the Virudhunagar, Namakkal, The Nilgiris, Tiruppur, Thiruvallur, Nagapattinam, Dindigul, Kallakurichi, Ariyalur, Ramanathapuram and Krishnagiri districts of Tamil Nadu.

The new colleges are being opened under the centrally sponsored scheme of 'Establishing of New Medical Colleges attached with existing district/referral hospital' which entails the establishment of medical colleges in districts, which do not have either a government or private medical college and will have a cumulative capacity of 1450 seats.
