Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar has officially retired from his role as Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) upon reaching the retirement age of 65. His term, which began in February 2022, was marked by a series of reforms aimed at enhancing the higher education landscape in India.

During his tenure, Kumar introduced several student-focused reforms. Notably, he played a pivotal role



in implementing the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for undergraduate and postgraduate admissions, aiming to standardise the admission process across universities.

He also advocated for the adoption of digital platforms like SWAYAM and Open and Distance Learning (ODL) to promote online education, aligning with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
