Due to harsh cold conditions throughout the state, the Punjab government announced an extension of winter holidays for students up to Class 5 in all schools until January 21.
Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains stated that students in grades 6 to 12 will have regular classes from 10 am to 3 pm.
On January 7, the state government issued a directive to shut down
all government, government-aided, and private schools up to Class 10 until January 14.
Meanwhile, classes 11 and 12 were operational. A cold wave has been affecting numerous areas in Punjab and Haryana.
The meteorological department reported that on Sunday, minimum temperatures in many locations across both states were 2–4 degrees Celsius below the normal range.
