The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) today signed MoUs with the Indian Army, the Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force for offering skill-based Bachelor degree Programmes to the Agniveers. Applications are now open at the official website — ignou.ac.in.
Registrations for these courses have started from August 1.
Under this partnership, the varsity is offering five courses:
BAAS: Bachelor of Arts (Applied Skills)
BAASTM: Bachelor of Arts (Applied Skills) Tourism Management
BAASMSME: Bachelor of Arts (Applied Skills) MSME
BCOMAS (Bachelor of Commerce (Applied Skills)
BSCAS: Bachelor of Science (Applied
Skills)
These programmes consist of 120 credits, out of which courses worth 60 credits are offered by IGNOU, while the remaining 60 credits are offered as in-service skill education by the Armed Forces.
The skill courses offered by the Armed Forces have been approved by the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET), the regulatory body for skill education. These programmes are also in consonance with the recommendation of NEP 2020 for integration of higher education with skill education.
This partnership has been established with the aim of helping the Agniveers in getting a Bachelor Degree while in service. With the help of this, the experts also aim to improve the employability post-service for the Agniveers.
