The state government of Karnataka has not decided on any final date regarding the reopening of schools in the state as they are still facing a few hurdles related to the specifics and details of the plan to resume regular classes for the students.
A meeting was scheduled between all the concerned officials regarding the plan to reopen the schools in Karnataka on November 2. The meeting has now been postponed to November 4 and the final decision will be taken post the meeting.
While talking to the reporters, Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar said, “We are seriously studying the Andhra Pradesh model for reopening of schools. Prior to taking any decision, we need to examine everything as it is a question of students' lives."
Though no final date has been decided to reopen the schools in Karnataka yet, the colleges in the state are
all set to reopen from November, according to the approval given by the state government.
This decision has been taken since the state is witnessing a fewer number of Covid-19 cases in the past few weeks. The education minister also said that due to the drop in the number of cases, the state government is giving fresh thought to the reopening of schools.
"Prior to reopening, we need to gather information on various fronts besides the health condition of the teachers and students," he also added. The state government is also preparing a fresh set of SOPs for the reopening of educational institutes.
"Experts feel that prolonged closure of schools can have a negative impact on a child's mind as well; therefore, we are examining all these things before arriving at a final decision," S Suresh Kumar said. The schools in the state might reopen from next week.
