This was stated by the Minister for Backward Classes Welfare Jogu Ramanna, in the ‘outcome budget 2016-17’ presented in the Legislative Assembly. A sum of Rs.2537.51 crore has been earmarked for BC Welfare for the year. The Minister said that the objectives of the Government are to increase the access to Education and improve the career prospects, to eradicate poverty through economic support schemes, and to reduce social inequalities and promote Social Cohesion (unity).
Some of the salient points made by the
Minister are as follows: A sum of
Rs.753.31 crore has been allocated under Plan during 2015-16 towards
Reimbursement of Tuition Fee to BC students, and Rs.466.05 crore was
released. A total of 771209 students

Post-Matric Scholarships to BC students, Rs.354.08 crore was allocated during the year 2015-16, and
Rs.269.85 crore has been released. Total 771209 students registered in ePass
Website.
An amount of Rs.252 crore has been allocated under Plan during the year 2016-17 towards Reimbursement of Tuition Fee to EBC students. During 2015-16, Rs.252 crore has been allocated under Plan towards Reimbursement of Tuition Fee to EBC students and Rs.124.43 crore is released. Total number of 99096 students registered in ePass Website.
