The Supreme Court announced today that aspiring medical students will now need to clear NEET medical entrance exam to get admission into private, unaided and minority vocational colleges as well if they want to apply for the MBBA and BDS postgraduate courses.
Thus, it is now compulsory for students to clear NEET if they want to study medical, no matter which college they apply to, even minority colleges.
Certain private unaided minority colleges had filed a
petition in the Supreme Court saying that the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) infringed on the fundamental right to religious freedom.
But with this order, the Supreme Court also said that minority rights as per the constitution are not violated by NEET.
As per SC, NEET was established to end all kinds of malpractices in the medical college admission system. It also ensures that the standard of medical education can be maintained throughout India.
