SC strikes down CBSE evaluation policy on marks of Class-12 scored in improvement exams as final

The Supreme Court struck down the evaluation policy of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)by which the marks of the improvement exam or the latest exam would be considered as final while assessing Class-12 students. 

When the issue was raised in the apex court, CBSE initially changed its stand only in the case of the students who did not pass the improvement exam but had passed the previous exam. 

The court, however, struck down this policy saying that it addresses the



student’s complaints only partially. Justices AM Khanwilkar and CT Ravikumar said that the Board should provide an option to the students to choose the better marks.

The apex court passed the order while hearing the pleas of the students who wrote the improvement exam. They appealed to the court to not cancel the marks of their previous exams. 

Even though the CBSE argued that the valuation of the papers of the plaintiffs have already been completed and cannot be altered the apex court rejected it.
