The Education Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has announced that the schools and colleges in the state will be reopening from November 2 and the guidelines for the reopening of the educational institutes will be issued soon.

The minister clarified that fresh guidelines will be issued to all the parents, students and stakeholders before the schools and colleges are reopened amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

The education minister of the state also said that the schools will only be reopened for students of classes 6 to 12. No decision has been taken yet regarding the reopening of schools for students of nursery to class 5.

Sarma has announced that



the classes for all other standards apart from 6th to 12th will remain suspended till further notice. The schools have also been asked to set staggered timings for all the standards who will be attending regular classes.

The Assam government has also announced that the colleges in the state will be reopening from November 2, with several health and safety guidelines set in place to reduce the risk of infection.

The colleges are only being reopened for postgraduate students for those courses that require research/ laboratory work. Permission has also been allowed for professional/ technical courses. The colleges for arts and commerce courses will remain closed, as per Unlock 5 guidelines.
