Wuhan schools reopened today after seven months of closure following the Covid-19 pandemic. Wuhan was Ground Xero for the coronavirus pandemic that shook the world and as cases continue to rise in India, as many as 2,842 educational institutions including kindergarten schools -- have reopened in Wuhan, allowing almost 1.4 million students to finally go back to school.
On Saturday, the local government announced the news of Wuhan schools reopening from September 1. If Covid-19 risk levels are seen to suddenly change, emergency plans are in place to immediately move
to online teaching.
Despite warnings to avoid mass gatherings, the media showed images of thousands of students raising the Chinese flag a daily routine in public schools.
Wuhan’s Covid-19 death roll is 3869 and it accounts for more than 80% of China’s total death count due to the coronavirus.
No local transmission cases of Covid-19 have been reported in Wuhan since May 28. After the central Chinese city was locked down for more than two months from late January, it has been returning to normal steadily since April.
