The West Bengal government on Thursday announced the decision to directly promote all government school students from class 1 to 8 to the next class because of the coronavirus pandemic and the ongoing lockdown.

WB Education Minister Partha Chatterjee said that the school education department has decided that no West Bengal

government school student from classes 1 to 8 would be detained this academic year.

"The department is passing on instruction to the schools (state-run and state-aided) to fully enforce the 'no detention' policy in all institutions for those studying up to the eighth standard, in view of the present situation," Chatterjee said.
