The Directorate of Government Examinations Tamil Nadu declared the results of class 10 public examinations on Monday. Tiruppur district topped the list with the highest number of students clearing the exams. The pass percentage recored by the students in Tiruppur stood at 98.53%.
The exams, which were conducted across the state between March 14 and March 29, saw 9.76 lakh students appearing, including those who had registered to write as private candidates.
The state recorded overall pass percentage of 95.2% of which girls recorded a higher pass percentage than the boys. The pass percentage of girls in Tamil Nadu this year stood at 97%, while that of boys stood at 93.3%. These results do not include students who had appeared under CBSE, ICSE or IGCSE boards of education.
While Tiruppur managed to grab the top spot, Ramanathapuram district stood second in the list of districts in terms of high pass percentage with 98.48% and Namakkal district came a close third with 98.45% of students crossing the pass mark.
Coimbatore district posted
96.44% pass percentage in the results and Chennai district stood at 23rd place overall with a pass percentage of 94.18%. In Chennai, girls outshone boys with a pass percentage of 97.02%.
The pass percentage of government schools in the state stood at 92.48% in 2019. The performance of government schools in Ramanathapuram district was the highest with 98.26% of the total students who had given the exams, passing the boards. This tally was followed by Kanyakumari (97.71%) and Erode (97.64%) districts.
Of the five papers that the students were tested in, most students passed the Science papers followed by English.
91.25% of the differently-abled candidates who had given the exams passed, while 110 of the 152 adult prisoners in Tamil Nadu also cleared the exams. In Tamil Nadu, the prisoners are given an option to study and appear for board exams for class 10 and 12.
Pass percentage this year recorded an increase of 0.70% when compared with the pass percentage of 2018. Over the past five years, the pass percentage has shown an increasing trend.
