One of the proudest and happiest moments in the life of a father is to see his children getting successful. One such episode occurred in the life of M Chellamuthu a farmer from the Poochukottamparai tribal settlement in Udumalpet range of Anamalai Tiger Reserve (ATR) in Tirupur district. His daughter C Sreedevi has secured 95% in class 10 Tamil Nadu board exam which is an achievement that is first in her community.
The 16-year-old girl from this tribal settlement in Annamalai Tiger Reserve has not been living an easy life. She went to school in Kerala’s Chalakudy and moreover members from her community hardly even finish elementary education.
A student at Nayaranagadi model residential school in
Chalakudy, Sreedevi, and her father had to travel 150km in two-wheeler to reach the check post and a vehicle was arranged by the Kerala government for her to take her to give her exam.
The tribal community is located in a place where there is a poor road, no electricity, and no mobile connectivity near their settlement. They have to walk a few kilometers to reach a place where there is a mobile network to connect with the outside world.
“From class 1 I have studied in Kerala and the teachers there have been very supportive and only because of that I was able to get full A plus in my class 10,” Sreedevi said.
Sreedevi who wants pursue science in class 11 wants to become a doctor.
