Telangana common entrance tests to go online in 2018

From next year, common entrance tests for various under-graduate and post-graduate courses in engineering, management, education, agriculture, pharmacy and law will be held online by the Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE).The decision follows instructions by education minister Kadiyam Srihari.

The seven CETs to be held online next year are -Eamcet, Ecet, Pecet, Edcet, Lawcet, Icet and Pgecet. Last year, the state government held Ecet (for lateral entry of polytechnic students into engineering courses) through the online mode as a pilot. Now, TSCHE has taken an in-principle decision to conduct CETs online. “We did face some hiccups in conducting the Ecet.However, it was a pilot



project to weed out flaws before we introduce the online-mode for other exams,“ said Papi Reddy , chairman of TSCHE.

Nearly 10 lakh students from across the state will take the CETs next year. “Once the conveners for all exams are appointed, they will prepare the question bank and submit the same to the government,“ said Reddy .

Officials said, apart from reducing the government's expenditure on printing question papers and answer sheets, the online system, will plug paper leaks. Sources said the TSCHE has proposed engaging the Telangana State Technical Services, which has signed an MoU with Tata Consultancy Services to conduct the tests.
