In a new initiative that aims to enhance the grooming of students at a secondary level of education, the French language is set to be introduced in Telangana government schools.
The programme, titled 'French for All, French for a Better Future', is a joint effort by the Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TSWREIS), the Telangana Tribal Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TTWREIS) and the French Institute in India (IFI).
The agreement to introduce the French language in Telangana schools was officially sealed on August 30 when the mentioned parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The significant event was attended by representatives such as Dr E Naveen Nicolas, Secretary, TSWREIS, Emmanuel Lebruns-Damiens, Director of the French Institute in India, and Thierry Berthelot, Consul General of France in Bangalore.
Dr E Naveen Nicolas expressed admiration for IFI's commitment toward this unique partnership in Telangana. He believes this collaboration aligns perfectly with the Telangana government's goal of achieving social justice by strengthening education for students from historically marginalised communities.
A similar sentiment was shared by Emmanuel Lebrun-Damiens, who
praised Telangana for their efforts in global language learning in government schools and affirmed education as a priority in the relationship between France and India.
Consul General Thierry Berthelot emphasised the immense value of this initiative for students, stating confidently: "This work will have a positive impact on the lives of the students and help them to succeed in the globalised world."
The initiative will be rolled out in approximately 20 TSWREIS/TTWREIS-affiliated schools in its pilot phase.
In this collaboration, the French Institute (IFI) will train teachers in communicative French, give students access to its cultural and academic platforms, as well as organise workshops and seminars to inform them about study opportunities in France.
The benefits of learning French are manifold, including improved job prospects, greater cultural understanding, enriched travelling experiences, better access to higher education institutions in France, enhanced cognitive abilities, and overall personal development.
This notable endeavour to inculcate a global language like French in Telangana's educational system is poised to considerably broaden the scope of opportunities for students and significantly contribute to their overall grooming.
