On the foundation day of Trinamool Congress (TMC) students’ wing, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee spoke in a virtual rally about the several issues that students are facing during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
Mamata Banerjee spoke about the reopening of schools, university examinations and the bias of the Indian media when the issue revolves around the safety of the students in the country.
While addressing the issue of the reopening of schools and colleges in the state of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee said, “When schools were opened in the US, 1 lakh students got infected.”
Today, the Supreme Court announced the final verdict regarding the UGC guidelines to conduct the examinations for final year students this year. The apex
court decided that the conduction of final year exams is absolutely necessary for all universities and institutes.
While talking about the conduction of university exams in the middle of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, Mamata said, “We have decided we won’t disturb students. There will be no university exams in September.”
She further said, “Students from other districts often sit for the test in Kolkata. Who will be responsible if they can’t reach the centre due to lack of transport?”
Mamata Banerjee and the state government of West Bengal has been very vocal against the conduction of entrances and university exams in the middle of the pandemic. The government has also asked the central government to postpone the NEET and JEE 2020 exams.
