TS-TET to be conducted in computer-based mode

The Telangana State Teacher Eligibility Test (TS-TET) will now on be conducted in the computer-based mode doing away with the pen and paper mode. However, a decision for issuance of notification is yet to be decided.

Proposal to conduct TET in computer-based mode was mooted by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) and sent to the State government for an approval.

The TET is mandatory for candidates who wish to teach for classes I to VIII in schools.

Candidates who completed DEd/BEd/Language Pandit or have equivalent qualifications can appear for the eligibility test. Students who are in their final year DEd/BEd/Language pandit courses can also take the test.

The test consists of paper-I (eligibility for



Secondary Grade Teacher post) and Paper-II (eligibility for School Assistant post). So far, candidates with DEd were qualified to appear for paper-I while BEd for paper-II.

Starting this year, candidates who completed their BEd course are also eligible for paper-I of the test. This means, the BEd degree holder can also get eligibility for SGT posts by qualifying in the paper-I. The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has already issue orders making changes to the eligibility criteria for appearing for the TET.

According to the NCTE guidelines, the TET certificate will be valid for seven years from the date of the examination. This apart, 20 per cent TET weightage will be given in the Teacher Recruitment Test.
