Bhubaneswar/Cuttack: The diktat issued by the authorities of a women's hostel at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT-Delhi) asking students to wear 'full covered decent clothes' to house day to be observed the premier institute on April 20, has sparked off widespread resentment in parts of the country.

Several girl students in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar have vehemently spoken against such circular issued by the IIT- Delhi and termed it as a deliberate attempt to curtail women's' right and a clear instance of gender discrimination.
The move by the authorities of IIT-Delhi to protect the girl students in the way of such dress code has not gone well particularly with the girl students here in Odisha as they are demanding for immediate revocation of such circular.
Sweta Das from Cuttack while speaking on the order said that, the overall mindset of people should change instead

of forcing us (girls) what to wear and what not.
"The circular issued in the case of dress code is completely wrong. The girls have every right to go to any function at their respective educational institutions in clothes that they are comfortable in unless its a convocation where a particular dress code is maintained. The authorities should not indulge in moral policing as they (girls) can decide what is right and wrong for them,"said Sweta.
Pinki Sahu, another student from Bhubaneswar said that a uniform dress code is only acceptable till the girls study in Plus II. But any kind of restriction imposed on wearing clothes in the form of moral policing, at least in premier educational institutions, should not be tolerated .
"At a time when the Prime Minister of the Country is leading a crucial campaign in the form of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, such kind of restrictions on girls is totally not justified," said Pinki.
