UGC Chairman M Jagadesh Kumar announced on Monday evening that the UGC NET exam date has been moved from June 16, 2024, to June 18, 2024, after reports of it clashing with the UPSC Prelims 2024.
"The National Testing Agency and UGC have decided to shift the UGC-NET from 16 June (Sunday) to 18 June 2024 (Tuesday) because of feedback received from candidates. NTA will conduct UGC-NET in OMR mode across India on a single day. NTA will soon issue a formal notification," Kumar wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) had sent a letter to the National Examination Agency (NTA) and the University Grants Commission (UGC), urging them to change the proposed date of the UGC NET exam, scheduled for June 16,
2024.
ABVP addressed concerns regarding the simultaneous scheduling of the UPSC Prelims examination by the Union Public Service Commission on the same date, emphasising the potential challenges it poses for students.
NTA had announced the UGC NET June 2024 exam date as June 16, 2024, in its public notice dated April 20, 2024. Similarly, the UPSC had set the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2024 on the same date, according to its notice dated March 19, 2024.
The overlapping exam dates have caused confusion among candidates preparing for both the UPSC and UGC NET exams, prompting ABVP to advocate for a change to avoid inconvenience for students.
The change in the UGC NET 2024 exam date now puts this issue to rest.
