Sardar jokes may be a thing of the past soon. The Supreme Court on Tuesday, in reponse to a PIL, has asked representatives of the Sikh community to give suggestions on what enforceable judicial directions can be passed to stop circulation of jokes on Sikhs.
We asked musician Daler Mehndi for his opinion on the same. Calling the community, dildaar and pyaar wale log, Mehndi says that he’s in favour of Sardar jokes being banned and that they shouldn’t be cracked on any community
at all.
“As a Sikh, I feel that sardaro ke upar jokes nahin hone chahiye. Mann mei nafrat nahi honi chahiye. Jis desh ke liye humne itna kuch kiya hai, woh phir apna hi desh paraya nahi lagna chahiye. Hum badi mushkil se desh ko yahan tak le ke aaye hai, qurbaaniyan di hai. Jokes aise crack nah ho toh acha rahega. Unko izzat aur pyar milna chahiye. With great difficulty we’ve brought the country to where we are, through sacrifices. We deserve love and respect.”
