Deepika Padukone turned down Oscar nominee Majid Majidi’s film, but why?

It all started when Deepika Padukone’s look test pictures for Majid Majidi’s Beyond The Clouds got ‘leaked’ before going viral. Rumours started that Deepika had bagged the lead role in Majid’s next. Within a few days, more reports came out suggesting that the Iranian film-maker “let her pass because she didn’t fit the bill”.

At the same time, it was also rumoured that since the pictures of Deepika’s test shoot ‘were leaked’, the makers felt that she was using the shoot pictures to further her interests in the international arena.

Now, there’s another twist to the story. Sources say that Deepika, who has a lot of respect for the director, apparently did the look test without a script. But, it’s believed that she had made it clear to the



makers that she would agree to do the film only when she hears or reads the final draft of the script.

However, sources add that Deepika unfortunately disliked the final draft (of the script) as it didn’t work out as per her expectations. Also, it’s believed that she isn’t looking for “something like this (film) at this stage of her career”. As a result, she respectfully bowed out of the film.

An insider says, “Since, Deepika admires Majidi’s work and holds him in high regards, she doesn’t want to talk about what exactly happened, but she is surprised with the kind of loose talk and conjectures it has led to. If the right script comes along, she would love to work with Majidi, since she admires his work.”
