Lipstick Under My Burkha is in the news ever since the film was denied certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). CBFC refused to certify the movie on the grounds that the film is too 'lady-oriented' and has explicit sexual content.
Well, this led to a huge outcry on social media. Pahlaj Nihalani, the CBFC Chairperson had to face the wrath of netizens who started slamming him and the censor board, calling it an unprogressive decision. Members of the film fraternity including Kabir Khan, Sudhir Mishra, Neeraj Ghaywan and Farhan Akhtar also rose to the occasion to criticise the Censor Board's decision.
However, Shah Rukh Khan, who received the prestigious fourth Yash Chopra Memorial Award in Mumbai yesterday, took a safer route. When asked to comment on the controversy, SRK seemingly dodged the question. Reacting to it he
said "You can ask me about the politics in Uttar Pradesh as well after that. I have no idea as I was on a holiday. So I don't know."
SRK, who has never shied away from expressing his views relating to feminism, had hit the rock last year over his comment on the rising intolerance in the country. However, since then the Raees actor has seemingly been taking the diplomatic route. He will next be seen in Imitiaz Ali's The Ring opposite Anuska Sharma.
Directed by Alanka Shrivastava, Lipstick Under My Burkha is produced by Prakash Jha and has Konkona Sensharma, Ratna Pathak Shah, Aahana Kumra, Plabita Borthakur in the lead roles.
The film even won the Spirit of Asia Award at the Tokyo International Film Festival and the Oxfam Award for best film on gender equality at the Mumbai Film Festival.
