NEW DELHI: Actor Akshay Kumar announced a donation of 25 crore to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s PM-CARES Fund on Saturday.
"This is time when the only thing that is important is the lives of our kin. What's more, we have to do everything without exception it takes. I promise to contribute 25 crores from my reserve funds to Narendra Modi ji's PM-CARES Fund. We should spare lives, Jaan hai toh jahaan hai," the entertainer tweeted.
Modi reported the production of the reserve prior to help alleviate the impacts of Coronavirus.
“People from all
walks of life expressed their desire to donate to India’s war against COVID-19. Respecting that spirit, the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund has been constituted. This will go a long way in creating a healthier India," the PM tweeted.
Kumar has been vocal in his support for the nation-wide lockdown, urging people to stay home and help contain the spread of corona. Like several Bollywood stars, he was seen participating in the janata curfew earlier this month, to appreciate the work of health practitioners and others who have provided essential services in these trying times.
