Akshay Kumar's film 'Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue' was released in theatres on October 6. The film, helmed by Tinu Suresh Desai, has not been faring well at the domestic box office. However, the makers have now independently submitted the movie for the Oscars 2024.
'Mission Raniganj' features Akshay Kumar in the role of Jaswant Singh Gill, a real life hero who saved 65 miners stuck inside a flooded coal mine in West Bengal's Raniganj back
in 1989.
The makers of the movie have now submitted it to the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts & Sciences, the body responsible for awarding the Oscars. However, being an independent submission, 'Mission Raniganj' will not be eligible to compete for the Best Foreign Film Award.
Like SS Rajamouli's 'RRR', 'Mission Raniganj' will be able to compete across all other major award categories, including Best Picture and Best Director.
