The much-awaited third installment of the 'Avatar' series, 'Avatar: Fire and Ash', will hit theatres on December 19, 2025. James Cameron will helm the film.
'Avatar' director James Cameron and actors Zoe Saldaña and Sam Worthington revealed the title on Friday, August 9, during the D23 expo. While Cameron didn't share any footage from the upcoming film, he did unveil some concept art from 'Avatar: Fire and Ash', showcasing Neytiri (Saldana) performing a dance over flames and riding banshees.
"You’ll see a lot more Pandora that you never saw before. It’s an insane adventure and a feast for the eyes, but it’s also got very high emotional stakes, more than ever
before. We’re going into really challenging territory for all the characters you know and love", Cameron said, according to Variety.
As reported by the publication, Cameron returns to direct the new Avatar film, scripted by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldaña reprise their roles, and the film is scheduled for release on December 19, 2025. Disney and 20th Century Studios have two more Avatar films planned: 'Avatar 4' on December 21, 2029, and 'Avatar 5' on December 19, 2031.
'Avatar' (2009) holds the record for the highest-grossing film of all time. Its sequel, 'Avatar: Way of Water', released in December 2022, is the third highest-grossing movie ever.
