Abheney Sawant made his debut with Kedar Shinde’s Shreemant Damodar Pant (2013), after which he was seen in Prasad Acharekar’s Akalpit (2014). This year, Abheney will entertain the audience with his film Thapadya, directed by Anil Shirole. The film is based on folk, rural theatre and has Abheney play a con man in it, but the actor says it is too early to reveal any more details about the film. The film also stars Manasi Musale and Sonali Gaikwad.
Abheney is the son of popular actor Nirmiti Sawant and admits that being a celeb kid comes with its share of pros and cons. He says, “Being a celeb kid comes with its own baggage. My mom is a popular name, so it automatically puts the
pressure of expectations on me. People’s outlook and reaction towards me changes the moment they know I am her son. Having said that, being a celeb kid has its pros too. I have literally lived in the industry since my childhood. I had the chance to assist directors, supervise scripts and understand film-making right on sets.”
An MBA in International Finance and Marketing, Abheney adds that he does discuss work with his mom and vice versa. “I am barely two films old, so I am yet to create a space for myself. On the other hand, my mom has done just about everything. I push her to take up new challenges and she tells me to try out everything,” adds Abheney, who wants to become a film-maker.
