Panaji: Padma Awardee and Noted
filmmaker Shyam Benegal said on Monday that the censorship should be abolished.
Mr Benegal was talking yesterday at a session of ‘Meet The Director’ at the 46th
edition of the International Film Festival of India which is underway in
Panaji. He said that making films in keeping with social sensibilities in their
environment don’t require censorship.
style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">He said, censorship has no real purpose to come in the
way of expression. He further said that filmmakers have been disassociating
themselves with rural India and rural films have gone out of our consciousness.
Mr Benegal, who has been credited with bringing alternative cinema, is best
known for his movies like Ankur, Bhumika and Junoon.
